Ajax Launch Transfer Talks for Girona Midfielder
Moroccan midfielder Azzedine Ounahi has used the 2026 World Cup as a personal showcase despite Morocco suffering a quarterfinal elimination against France. The 26-year-old maestro put in a string of impressive midfield performances that caught the attention of elite European scouts looking to bolster their tactical setups this summer.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ajax Amsterdam are actively negotiating to secure Ounahi from Spanish side Girona. The Moroccan international, who earned his 55th cap during the tournament, has a contract running until June 2030 and features a 25 million euro release clause that the Eredivisie club hopes to negotiate down.

Girona manager Michel is highly keen on adding the technical playmaker to his squad composition, driving the ongoing discussions between all major parties. While Ajax try to lower the final fee, Girona hold a strong position due to the player's long-term contract and renewed global interest following his World Cup campaign.
This potential transfer could heavily benefit Olympique de Marseille, who smartly negotiated a 30 percent sell-on clause when they sold Ounahi to Girona for 6 million euros. If Ajax triggers the full 25 million euro valuation, the French club would recoup 7.5 million euros to help satisfy strict UEFA financial regulations.
