Marseille to Kick Off New Season as PSG Face Heavyweight Battles

Even as the World Cup commands global attention, domestic football scheduling is ramping up. Olympique de Marseille will officially open the French top-flight season when they host Strasbourg at the Orange Velodrome on Friday, August 21. This curtain-raiser sets the stage for a heavily anticipated domestic campaign as clubs look to implement new tactical setups.

The opening weekend continues on Saturday, August 22, with Lens hosting newly-promoted Auxerre before a four-match multiplex gets underway. Highlighting the late Saturday slot is a fierce battle between Toulouse and Lyon, alongside Nice taking on Lorient, Troyes facing Paris FC, and Le Mans hosting Brest in a packed evening of action.

Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain will close out the opening round on Sunday, August 23, with a marquee home fixture against Rennes at the Parc des Princes. Earlier that day, Angers will test their tactical system against Lille at the Stade Raymond-Kopa, while Le Havre prepare for a difficult home assignment against Monaco.

The LFP also confirmed crucial timings for the second round, which features early tests for the title contenders. Paris Saint-Germain travel to Lille for a blockbuster Friday night clash on August 28, while the first true heavyweight derby of the season sees Monaco host Marseille at the Stade Louis II on Sunday, August 30.
